Another Dirty Computer
Here are some shots from another computer that has come in for servicing, this shows the danger of dust. Although the dusty CPU Fan will cause overheating and shutdown, this will only shorten the life of the CPU marginally. The main problem is the dust in the PSU (Power Supply Unit) which causes shorting of components and possible fire hazard.

Can not type into message panel when writing a new email.
This is a problem that sometimes can occur with Outlook Express 6 and not sure with earlier versions, if using an earlier version then I suggest you update to version 6 anyway. This problem is normally fixed by reinstalling Internet Explorer or updating to Explorer version 8. Why this works I am not sure, but it works!

Service Your Computer Regularly
It is important to have your computer serviced about every six months. You think nothing about having your car put in for regular servicing (or most of us!), so why not your computer which you can not do without. When a computer is put into us for a general service, we take all the components out to clean each individually and then reassemble. This cleaning process includes cleaning the gold contacts, cleaning fans and heatsinks, general cleaning of inside the computer case including slots.

The Microsoft Support Desk Scam has been around for a few months now and seems to be gaining momentum. I have spoken to some customers who have had their computer in with us when they received the call, saving them from falling into the trap.
The latest scam being carried out is a barrage of callers posing as Microsoft tech support; they gain personal and financial information by instructing you to setup and allow remote access under the guise of removing computer threats.

Just had an interesting conversation with a customer where since getting his new computer back, a replacement for the old one, all the am radios' in the house have bad static, and gets worst the closer it is to the computer. My first suggesting to this is to replace the power supply, but I would like to hear from anyone who has other ideas.
The customer said he had looked at the internet and saw where this was a problem but could see no ready answer. Maybe one of you electronic buffs would have an idea and be able to let the rest of us know. I would like to find the answer and so would love to hear back. Just use the message box on the site or reply on the blog here.
